Adam Rom is a name you’ll be hearing a lot more of in 2021. This talented young artist has already been tipped for greatness from Radio 1 with a debut single that stormed the charts; and he’s now only gone and had his latest song Pieces sampled over our Scatter Cushion social launch video! We couldn’t resist having a natter with the Brit School graduate to find out more about his music, new year goals and interior vibes. Enjoy!
Hey Adam - let’s start with a simple introduction - tell us about yourself and what you do?
I'm a 19 year old singer/producer/songwriter/multi instrumentalist from south London.
How would you sum up your sound, and who are your idols?
My unreleased material is a cluster of RnB/indie/pop thats musically driven and inspired by jazz. Some of my idols are Daniel Caeser, Tom Misch, Col3trane, Zayn etc.
How has your sound changed or developed in 2021, and what have you been writing about?
Well I think all aspects of my music has matured. The lyrical themes are based on more real emotions and experiences I’ve had during this past year. But musically the songs hold their own right in terms of accompaniment, they are detailed and even more creative.
Your song Pieces is featured on our latest video for scatter cushions, and we’re very happy about it! What’s the song about?
The song for me is about falling for someone. I wrote it when I was falling in love for the first time and how ones guard just falls and you completely let a person into your world.
The message behind our cushion shoot and video is about happy-huggable-moments. What makes Adam Rom happy?
Lots of things bring me happiness, just one of those things though is my piano.
It’s that ‘new year, new me’ month - so, here comes the question - what are your new year resolutions, and what are you striding on with?
Ooo ok, here’s just a few off the top of my head; to continue my physique transformation, and would obviously like some major progression in my musical career. So one thing specifically is to sell out my own headline show!
Looking ahead to a summer of *fingers crossed* festivals, who would be on your dream lineup?
Daniel Caeser, Loyle Carner, Mura Masa, Jacob Collier, Drake, Slow Thai, Harry Styles.
We’re a sofa brand, so it’s only fair that we talk about interiors - what’s your home style set up - is it musically inspired?
So my room is very simple and clean, colour wise it’s driven by neutral tones but has splashes of darker wood around (from things like my upright piano, guitars etc). In terms of furniture everything is just musical equipment! One thing missing is definitely a sofa though… ;) haha!
Which of our cushion tones takes your fancy and sums up your personality the most and why?
The slate sounds like a bit of me and also looks like it would fit quite well into my room! I think personality wise I’d be something more interesting though like the mulberry or hazelnut.
What have you been watching on the box from the comfort of your home?
The Witcher was the last thing I watched and oh my is it good! Probably one of my favourite series to date, I watched it all in 8 hours straight!
